Anyone know if it's possible to shrink a 7 5/8 wool cap down to a 7 3/8 or 7 1/2? Let me know!

Definitely can be shrunk to 7 1/2. I think you can probably get pretty close to 7 3/8.

I guess I should add it depends on what kind of wool. Are you talking about a wool hat made before 2007?

Yes, based on the inside tags, I'm thinking 2000-2004. The blue and red logos.

Do you currently own the hat or are you looking at one and wondering if it will fit? The Authentic Collection wool hats tend to run a bit smaller, at least in my experience. I wear a 7 5/8, but prefer 7 3/4 when it comes to AC wool hats. If you do not already own the hat, you may find it requires less shrinking than you originally thought.

To shrink the hat, you should start with soaking it with hot water and letting sit on your head until it dries. Do you best to ignore the wet dog smell.

I currently have the same hat but in 7 3/8, but it's the Diamond collection tag from around 1997. That hat fits snug and also I tried a 7 1/2 in same material and fit almost exactly the same when shrunk. That's why getting a 7 5/8 wouldn't be a bad idea.

The Diamond Collection hats run more true to size as compared to the modern poly hats. I think you can make the 7 5/8 work.

Ok! You're saying the later wool hats run smaller than the Diamond Collection ones?

In my experience, yes. My Diamond Collection wool hats fit best at 7 5/8. My Authentic Collection wool hats fit best at 7 3/4. My poly size is 7 5/8.

I've had the opposite experience. I can barely fit into a 7 1/2, let alone a 7 3/8 for Diamond Collection. I wear 7 3/8 in Poly and late Wool, but I can almost only wear a 7 1/2 Diamond Collection.

OK fellas,
There is a hat on ebay in brand new condition in a size 7 7/8. The hat is wool from maybe 2005-2007(blue new era tags). I usually wear a 7 1/2 in wool hats. Do you think its possible to shrink the hat that much to make it fit. Thoughts??

I think that is asking too much of the wool. I've considered a 7 7/8 before, but held off because I don't think I could get it to fit my 7 5/8 head. Even if you could get the hat to physically fit your head, I feel like there would be excess fabric at the back and around the crown, which wouldn't look good.
