finally picked up a cubs WS. Made in China but it's probably the best quality china cap i've seen, the brim is lined up right, batterman on the back is lined up, no loose stitching and the crown looks good.

stupid patched on NE flag looks terrible though. i'm gonna try to take it off.

Honestly, I wouldnt take it off if I were you because I look at it like this: the batterman originally came as a patch/pin and finding those caps are a rarity now. If you keep it how it is, maybe 30 years down the road it'll also be a rarity that is highly sought after. Just my opinion.

I'm breaking my no-new New Era cap rule for the Cubs. If anyone can find the Cubs World Series on-field caps in 7 1/4 made in USA please get me two and I will pay via Paypal instantly. I couldn't find one in the entire Silicon Valley.

I might also accept 7 1/8.

Fraser and I literally checked every single Lids and Lids Locker Room in Clark County, NV. Our findings:

size 7
size 8
only 3 size 3/8
1 size 5/8

yeah i checked the lids by me, they had no 7 1/8 and only two 7 1/4 left (including the one I bought).

if I see a 7 1/8 mUSA pop up anywhere I'll probably buy a second one. I'm kind of in between 1/8 and 1/4 so i just said screw it and got the 1/4 today.

it was kind of weird though they kept them all in the back. I first walked in and didn't even see them anywhere so I asked the employee if they had any and he had to go to the back room.

you would think they would put time sensitive items like that front and center in the store so everybody knows they have it. I bet a lot of people walked in there, didn't see them and left.

also this might be a dumb question because I haven't bought any current-on fields in a couple years. I usually buy older diamond collection stuff. What happened to the cool base fabric? I noticed the tags don't say cool base anymore, and the big sticker is gone.

and the fabric itself feels a little different to me. All my cool base hats are really smooth to the touch. My cubs WS hat feels a little more fuzzy and rigid almost like how wool does. It doesn't feel like actual wool and it's obviously not, but it definitely doesn't feel the same as my cool base caps. I don't have a problem with it, I just thought it was a weird difference.

Cool Base went out a few years ago. The big sticker lasted a little longer but has also been gone for some time now. Decent number of big sticker caps still available at ballparks and some retailers however.

I have some Cool Base caps that feel exactly like the current models but a few that are, as you put it, more smooth to the touch. I've personally had great luck with the current poly so long as it's MUSA. Only got one MUSA (with imported materials) that had bad poly.

If anyone finds 7 1/8 in the Cubs champions hat or World Series hat made in USA then let me know. I would love to buy some.

so are they still technically "performance fabric"? or are they back to just being hats again lol?

I found a place called Sports Fever in San Diego that had about 5 Cubs WS on field hats. The only MUSA hat was a 7 5/8 and the C logo on front was a lot thinner than all of the MIC hats they had and the thinner C looked weird. The MIC caps actually looked and felt better.

Just went to Lids in Arizona Mills and found two USA made w/imported materials Cubs World Series caps in size 7. If anyone wants me to go back and pick one up for them id gladly go back and grab it for someone. Should be here for another hour or so.

Honestly, the NE flag isn't a huge deal for me. Blasphemy, sorry. I just can't get that excited about it. I do think they are better when a team color is blended in (i.e. red for the Cubs instead of the white they went with in the Series...but those so far are only available on Cubs 3930 hats...) but really in a world where WS and other special event patches have been on caps for 20+ years, and there are routinely special games where even dumber things happen (camouflage hats...) I cannot get too fired up over the NE logo. Majestic, Russell Athletic, and Rawlings logos have been on jersey sleeves since at least the 1980's. If one day MLB lets a Viagra patch be put on a cap that will be over the line, but until then live and let live. I don't fault those of you for whom this is unacceptable. I certainly understand, I guess for me it just doesn't matter that much. Then again I collect only the Cubs, and have maybe a dozen hats - not hundreds.

I kind of agree with you, but I'm quite new to collecting. The NE flag bums me out, but, honestly, I think I'll just try to find a way to remove it. I'm only interested in On-Fields, but it's close enough for me if all they are missing is a corporate logo.

My own thoughts: one, the postseason patches are frequently well designed and memorialize great moments in team history. I have no problem with them even if they are cash grabs and the flag pushing them into a secondary slot is inexusable. Second, camo caps and whatnot may frequently look stupid on the players (IMO) but they're not worn often and nobody forces us to buy them. Finally, the NE logo looks cheesy, stands out against its background and is HUGE relative to the article of clothing compared to the Majestic logo on jerseys for example.

For those of you looking for USA Tigers caps, Gameday Detroit in the Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, Michigan has at least ~10 in each size for home and away. They also have the big sticker on the brim.

I mean, I will never wear a hat with the NE logo but that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy one, provided it is MUSA. A little bit of surgery would fix that right up.
